Biometric techniques can be used in the workplace to protect the interests of both employees and employers. Biometric techniques can help adapt working conditions to employees’ needs. On the other hand, an employer can use the processing of biometric data to implement controls in the workplace, particularly controlling access to important information or sensitive workplace premises. Using biometric techniques involves profound interference with privacy and other personal rights, posing a significant threat to the dignity of the person concerned. In this study, we aimed to determine the permissible limits an employer’s intrusion into an employee’s privacy when processing biometric data. The discussion focuses on understanding what biometric data are, the risks associated with their misuse and the current legal regulations on biometric data processing in the employment context.
